Evergreen Cooperative in Cleveland, Ohio is a worker owned cooperative and shared equity housing development.

  • Employees of the businesses in the Cooperative own a stake in the Cooperative’s community land trust.

  • Employees of the Cooperative can own a home without paying taxes or a mortgage for the first five years. They live in the home while they pay it with a payroll deduction.

Kaiser Permanente and UnitedHealth Group

In 2018, Kaiser Permanente joined with Enterprise Community Partners to address housing instability and homelessness in the Bay Area of California. They created a $200 million Thriving Communities Fund.

  • Kaiser Permanente also identified 500 homeless people over the age of 50 who have at least one chronic condition in Oakland, California. They are working with other community partners to secure housing for these people and connecting them to vital services.

  • UnitedHealth Group has contributed $100 million to the Health & Housing Fund, a partnership with Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future and the National Affordable Housing Trust. This is just part of UnitedHealth Group’s $500 million investment in affordable housing.
